OUT OF HOURS SERVICE
Last updated:13/11/2009 10:30:08
staff outside the Out of Hours CentreIn 2004, GPs agreed a new national contract which means they are no longer responsible for providing medical care outside normal office hours. Swindon PCT now runs the service in this area.

Our Out of Hours services operate between the hours of 6.30pm - 8 am and Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

If you need urgent medical help the following is available:

Visit: Carfax NHS Medical Centre - a GP and walk-in centre practice.  Carfax Street, Swindon map
Weekdays: 8am -  8pm 7 days a week

The service offers bookable appointments for patients who are registered at the practice, as well as patients who are registered with other practices up to 8 pm weekdays and from 8am to 8pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.  They also offer a walk-in service to registered and non-registered patients with the clinical team.

If you need a GP urgently during these hours
call 01793 541111.

Non-urgent - some Swindon GPs offer booked appointments after 6.30 pm or  before 8 am or on Saturday.  Check with your GP surgery.  Read the leaflet - Improving access to GP Services

The Clover Unit, Great Western Hospital map
Open 24 hours a day from November 2006

Tel: Out of Hours - 01793 541111
Open 24 hours.

A specialist adviser will take some details over the phone and decide on the kind of care they think you need. Then, either a nurse or a doctor will ring you back. You may be asked to come in to the Out of Hours clinic or, in special circumstances, a doctor may visit you at home.

Please remember that the service is only for when your surgery is closed. And it is not for routine matters like appointments, test results and repeat prescriptions. For these, you should ring your own GP surgery during normal working hours.

In emergencies, you should still ring 999 or visit Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital. For most Swindon people that would be the Great Western Hospital (GWH). For information regarding GWH click here.
