The Healthcare Commission
The Healthcare Commission promotes improvement in the quality of the NHS and independent healthcare.
 

Health Informatics
Health Informatics Community, the specialist library in Health Informatics of the National electronic Library for Health, aimed at everyone with an active interest in health informatics. Health & Social Care Information Centre

National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE)
The National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence works on behalf of the National Health Service and the people who use it. It makes recommendations on treatments and care using the best available evidence.

Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
The Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Health Service Ombudsman undertake independent investigations into complaints about government departments, a range of other public bodies, and the National Health Service.

Prodigy Guidance offers advice on the management of conditions and symptoms that are commonly seen in primary care. The guidance is advisory and has been developed to assist healthcare professionals, together with patients, make decisions about the management of the patient's health. It is intended to support discussion and shared decision-making, and is not a substitute for sound clinical judgment or seeking medical advice where appropriate.

Quality and Outcomes Framework

GP practices receive incentives and rewards for providing high quality services to patients, using the new Quality and Outcomes Framework - QOF for short. Practices are awarded points for their achievements in a total of 146 standards, incentives and assessments relating mainly to essential and additional clinical services for patients, but also for the training and education of the staff and management of the practice. Participation in QOF is entirely voluntary, but all 30 of Swindon's practices have chosen to take part.  more info
