Welcome to NHS Swindon

The swine flu vaccine is currently being offered to people who are most likely to become seriously ill if they catch the virus. These people are in the following priority groups:

Adults and children over six months of age who have a long-term health condition, including:

  • Chronic lung disease
  • Chronic heart disease
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Chronic neurological diseases
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Immunosuppression caused by a disease or treatment for a disease. For example, this may include people who do not have a spleen, and people who are on immunosuppressant treatment or are taking high doses of systemic steroids.
  • Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy

Being pregnant can put you more at risk of being seriously ill if you catch swine flu. So far, evidence suggests that pregnant women are four

If you fall within the priority groups mentioned, you will be contacted by your GP, inviting you to receive a vaccine.

If you think that you have swine flu, please do not visit your GP, local pharmacy or go to A&E. A pandemic flu line has been set up, which will diagnose you over the phone and instruct you what to do next. By not visiting public areas, you will be helping to reduce the spread of the virus.

Annual Health Check

NHS Swindon is celebrating after maintaining a good performance in the annual health check results released today by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
